EPPERSON WINS BILSTEIN MOD LITE STARS MIDWEST NATIONALS By Dana Royer/34 Raceway WEST BURLINGTON, I (September 14, 2013) – Muscatine High School, Junior, Evan Epperson, picked up what was probably the biggest win of his racing career Saturday, Sept. 14. Epperson held off several challenges by Gregg Rossell to win the $1500 payday after taking the checkered flag in the STARS National Mod Lite event at 34 Raceway. 34 cars, 34 laps and one pit stop. That was the format for the $1500 to win Stars Mod Lite National event at 34 Raceway Saturday night, Sept. 14. 45 Mod Lite cars came to 34 Raceway for the big money. Following 4 heat races, 2 B-Mains and 2 provisional’s the field was set for the 34 lapper. Tracy Fritter and Dusty Masolini set the pace for the green flag with Fritter taking the first lap. Following a caution on lap 5, seventeen year old Evan Epperson would get by Fritter for the first lead change of the race. But his lead was short with Mike Morrill taking the lead on next lap. Morrill led the next seven laps before Epperson would take back his previous lead and never give it up despite several challenges from Morrell and Greg Rossell who moved up from his fifth row start. Rossell would move into the second spot on lap 21 following the 10 minute pit stop and pulled alongside Epperson in the remaining laps. Epperson, who is looking to a possible change to sprints next year, would pull off the win for the $1500 holding off Rossell in an exciting finish.

Bilstein Modified Lite STARS Announces “Major Contingency” Program SOMERSET, PA (July 1, 2013) – Midway through the 2013 season, Mother Nature would be the leading feature winner on the Bilstein Modified Lite Series, but the good news for all of the racers is that she is ineligible to partake in the bountiful contingency prizes offered for the regional and national events. In the first half of 2013, the Bilstein Modified Lite STARS had 25 events scheduled throughout the United States; but ten of them were rain outs. With the high cost of fuel, many promoters pulled the plug early with chance of rain in the forecast because race teams and fans just won’t take the risk. But, on a positive note, the races produced ten different winners so far, demonstrating that sanctioned events are highly competitive programs.

Bilstein Modified Lite STARS Tour is pleases to announce the teaming arrangement with Hoosier Racing Tire making Hoosier the official tire for the 2013-2015 season. Hoosier Racing Tire Corp. has been producing winning race tires for over 40 years. Hoosier produces over 1000 different size and compound combinations used at over 400 race tracks across the world.

If you were at the Indianapolis IMIS convention you would have seen Bruce Mason, President of the Modified Lite STARS and Bill Bauer, President of Racing Operations hard at work. Both were able to meet with Hoosier Racing Tire, Product Manager Shanon Rush and put closure to Request for Proposals (RFP) which was sent out to the tire manufactures at the start of the 2012 season.

Bauer stated during the meeting with Hoosier Tire "The Modified Lite STARS program is unique to other sanctioning bodies, we are a non-profit organization and we prefer to have a tire program that is affordable and not a support tire program". Within the modified lite division, the current sanctioning plated tire cost the driver more than $125.00 each, a portion of that is turned over to the sanctioning series making that tire a support tire program. I don't like the idea that the drivers have to pay the extra fee on top of the original cost of the tire. We are looking for an affordable and durable tire which Hoosier Racing Tire has given us.

During the 2012 season Hoosier provided us with a set of test tires similar to the Hoosier Dirt Bozz Style tread pattern "H", and the Hoosier Racing Tire sanctioning body plated tire with 40-durometer reading. We put a lot of laps on the tire which has a softer side wall giving the driver more stability in the turn. Overall the tire outperformed the current tire and made our decision to select the Hoosier test tire as our primary tire. Bruce Mason stated "We're thrilled to extend our ongoing relationship with Hoosier Racing and look forward to our three year partnership."

Starting in 2013 the Bilstein Modified Lite STARS is proud to announce the Hoosier tire program:

Hoosier Racing Tire will provide a STARS plated tire 205/60-13, 215/60-13 soft and 215/60-13 medium tire, 235/60-13 TBD $100 retail cost to the driver, a saving of $25 for each tire Hoosier will provide the Modified Lite STARS Tour with four tires for each of the five national events, up to 20 tires total Hoosier will have a two month spool up period. Estimated date of release for the STARS plated tire is March 1, 2013.

Modified Lite STARS Tour rules to read: The official tire for the Modified Lite STARS Tour is the Hoosier STARS plated 205/60-13, 215/60-13 soft and 215/60-13 medium tire, other tires to be considered by events.

Note: Hoosier Dirt Bozz Style tread pattern "H", Hoosier Racing Tires sanctioning body plated tires and American Racer CC 40-durometer minimum before the race will remain in effect for a burn off period identified by the Modified Lite STARS Tour.

The Bilstein Modified Lite STARS Championship Series is entering its seventh year of operations. The non-profit organization gives modified lites community in the United States and Canada the opportunity to compete for enhanced purse and an annual point fund. The Bilstein Modified Lite STARS International Championship Tour represents an aggressively growing segment of motor sports' racing and is recognized as the leader in modified lite racing. The 2012 season was very successful, with more than 280 different drivers competing for regional and national points. Our best estimates are that because of Bilstein's support we were able to pay out more than $200,000 in cash and awards.

Modified Lite STARS International Championship Tour is proudly supported by its major sponsors. Bilstein Shock Absorbers, Hertrick GMC, Hoosier Racing Tire, American Racer, Contingency Connection, Hay's Auto, and Teeters Motorsports.

Minnesota North Stars Modified Lite Series Next to Partner with Bilstein Modified Lite STARS International Racing Series

Bilstein Modified Lite STARS International Association is proud to announce the partnership of the Minnesota North Star Mod Lites Racing Series. Bill Bauer, President of Competition and Racing Operations of the Bilstein Modified Lite STARS series announced today that the Minnesota series will fall under the Modified Lite STARS International Association regional programs. Bauer stated that we reached out to Roger Anderson the series director during the off season and provided Roger with information about our sponsorship and contingencies programs; "It's what our organization is all about" Bauer stated. Most mod lite organizations are clubs and we focus on working with each organization providing guidance and allowing them to run their own program and set of rules. We talk with many clubs and race tracks about mod lite racing and with the forming of the Modified Lite International Association we bring more stability and numbers to our sponsors. In 2011, "We provided well over $150,000 in cash and contingencies to our drivers, and in 2012 we expect to exceed that amount", Bauer stated that Roger and the Minnesota North Star Mod Lites (NSML) has already put together an excellent program and are working with track promoters at several tracks in Southern Minnesota and Northern Iowa. In 2012 NSML will be part of the Bilstein Modified Lite STARS Great Lakes Region. Bauer stated that we need to think outside the box and work together with other programs like the Minnesota group. NSML has done an excellent job and we have a common philosophy between the Bilstein STARS program and NSML. Go to www.electrictaz.com for more information about the NSML Series.

The Pittsburgh Circle Track Club hosted its annual banquet Saturday night. For more than three decades, the club has been the leading organization for racing fans and racers in the greater Pittsburgh area. In addition to presenting its own prestigious awards to racers in numerous classes of competition, the PCTC played host to the Bilstein Modified Lite STARS. That group recognized its top national and regional drivers, showing that big things are happening for the small car set.

The Bilstein Modified Lite STARS is the brainchild of former racer and current track official Bill Bauer. Bauer raced in the class before his military deployment several years ago. Even before he hung up his helmet, though, Bauer got his start in officiating and promoting races for the Modified Lites. Bauer assisted Walt Breeding, of Team USA, in coordinating major events, such as the Winter nationals held annually at East Bay Raceway Park.

From there, Bauer became a spokesman for the Modified Lite class, and he played a key role in the creation of the Pennsylvania Modified Lite STARS, a sanctioning body that brought the top racers in the Western Pennsylvania-Eastern Ohio area together for race meets. In some of the higher-paying events, it was not uncommon for racers from Delaware, West Virginia, New York and Canada to appear.

During Bauer's deployment, however, the organization struggled and Modified Lite racing began to splinter apart. Localities were developing disparate rules packages, which prevented racers from travelling to other venues to participate in major events. Car counts dropped, and promoters became less interested in hosting events for the class.

After his return from deployment, Bauer became a track official at Mercer Raceway Park. He also accepted a position as the Director of Race Operations for the Modified Tour. Despite these new responsibilities for big cars, Bauer still had a warm spot in his heart for the Modified Lites. Many of the drivers were his friends, and some were his neighbors. A number of competitors reached out to him to help the class regain some of its lost momentum.

Bauer accepted the challenge in 2011. Working together with Bruce Mason, a leader in Modified Lite racing in Canada, and others, Bauer worked tirelessly to develop a rules package that would help stabilize the situation for racers and allow them to travel again. He recruited tracks to buy into the concept of uniform rules and he began to develop a network of regional and national events to raise the profile for the class.

The Modified Lite STARS South Region developed a strong presence, racing weekly at Mercer Raceway Park, while the Northern Region had its base at Merritville Speedway, in Canada. However, tracks as far away as Arkansas and Texas participated as well. The overarching series was the Bilstein Modified Lite STARS International Championship Tour.

With primary sponsorship coming from Thyssen Krupp Bilstein of America, and Northeast Modified Lites, Inc., the STARS Modified Lite organization presented a unique national point fund and regional points funds that paid out in excess of $150,000 in cash and contingency awards.

Leading the way on the national stage was Derek Wagner. The New Yorker was a regular at CanAm Speedway. He was named the Bully Dog Dominating Performer Challenge winner, and for that he received a prize package worth $4,700. Behind him were STARS South regional racers, Mark Marcucci, Shawn Sliter and Josh Sliter. Steve White, a Delaware hot shoe, rounded out the top five. They received cash and prizes ranging in value from $975 to $1,750.

Jeff Teeters, crowned the STARS South Regional Champion, was sixth in the national standings. His total winnings from the national and regional programs exceeded $2,000. Teeters was the winner of two major events, the Little Guys Nationals, held at Mercer Raceway Park, and the Steel City Stampede, held at Lernerville Speedway.

Alan Knepper was second in the South Region and eighth nationally. Mark Marcucci, Andy Feil, and Lynn Knepper completed the top five in the southern area. George Englert, Tracy Fritter, Shawn Sliter, Cody Bova and Darin Gallagher finished in positions six through ten locally.

Bauer has big plans for 2012. Modified Lite groups in Arizona, New Mexico and Iowa are joining the party. Plans are underway to involve these new areas in the International Tour, so that drivers in those diverse locations can benefit from the resurgence of Modified Lite racing. Modified Lite STARS 2011 in Review

The 2011 season was very successful that saw more than 225 different drivers competing for regional and national points. Our best estimates are that because of Bilstein's support we were able to pay out more than $150,000 in cash and awards.

With the 2012 racing season about three months away, the Bilstein Modified Lite STARS Series continues to work diligently toward the release of the exciting new season's schedule of events and promotions.

We're really excited about BRP being a part of the Modified Lite STARS Program. Pete Bicknell and I had a long conversation concerning the future of the STARS program and the direction we are heading. With most of the modified lite manufactures going through BRP for their C andC work, drivers and car owner are encourage to contact BRP or check their website for modified lite parts. One of the biggest complaints we receive from our drivers is that they struggle getting modified lite parts from the chassis manufactures, Bauer briefed Becknell. Now with BRP stocking inventory of the modified lite parts provides our drivers with an additional options.

Bicknell Racing Products carries a lot of weight in the world of Dirt Modified racing. In fact, BRP is the name that first comes to mind when Dirt Modifies are mentioned. BRP replacement components are available for the PRO and Five Star chassis along with others and they ship anywhere in the U.S. or Canada. Check out their website at www.bicknellracingproducts.com

Each year we try to offer new programs and continue to build more excitement around the Bilstein Modifed Lite STARS Series and with support from Bicknell Racing Products our drivers now have more options to select from.

After meeting with some great contacts at the IMIS show and with the holidays over and our schedule is 90 percent completed, I'm now going to focus more of my efforts toward adding additional companies on to this program.

North Texas Series Joins Modified Lite International Association

Bilstein Modified Lite STARS International Association is proudly to announce the forming of the North Texas STARS Racing Series. Bill Bauer, president of the non-profit international association, announced today that the new racing series will fall under the Modified Lite STARS International Association regional programs. Bauer stated that we reached out to the group during the 2011 season and provided them with $4000 worth of sponsorship and contingencies; "It's what our organization is all about" Bauer stated. Most mod light organizations are clubs and we focus on working with each organization providing guidance and allowing them to run their own program and set of rules. We talk with many clubs and race tracks about mod lite racing and with the forming of the Modified Lite International Association we bring more stability and numbers to our sponsors. With the racing convention season fast approaching, Bauer will be talking with all the major racing manufacturers to gain more sponsors for the 2012 season. In 2011, "We provided well over $100,000 in cash and contingencies to our drivers, and in 2012 we expect to exceed that amount", Bauer stated. The North Texas STARS Racing Series has already put together an excellent program and are working with track promoters at the 281 Speedway, RPM Speedway of Texas, Mountain Creek Speedway, Grayson County Speedway, and Super Bowl Speedway. For more information about the North Texas STARS Racing Series go to www.ntsrs.org'.

Jeff Teeters of Warren Ohio, started in the number one position in a 24 modified lite field, and lead every lap of the 20 lap feature, taking home the "Steel City Stampede" win and final race of the Bilstein Modified Lite STARS South Racing Series Sunday afternoon, at Lernerville Speedway, Sarver, PA.

The win was Teeter's third this season and also becomes the third different driver in three seasons to win the fall finale.

"The car was unstoppable all day. I have to thank Leader Race Cars and my sponsors," Teeter said. "We don't normally run well here at Lernerville with all the tough competition. I think we might have figured something out.

Lynn Knepper of Somerset, PA., ran a strong race until lap 13 when he took a wild tumble off the back straight when he and Zannesville, OH driver Tracey Fritter got together. The flip was nothing new to Knepper and the third of the year. Many remember when Knepper took a wild wide at the STARS International Race at Merittesville Speedway earlier in the year. Knepper joked in the pits asking for additional stile points for the flip and tumble.

On the restart Teeters had his hands full for the final seven laps with Fritter and Brian Woodhall putting pressure on until a last lap caution flew while Teeter's and Fritter exited turn four for the yellow checker flag.

(59) Tracy Fritter, Zanesville, (29S) Brian Woodhall, Apollo, (12) Darin Gallagher, Butler, (81) Doug Williams, Central Square, NY, (20B) Cody Bova, Struthers, OH, (08) Andy Feil, New Castle, (20) Alan Knepper, Somerset, (17) Josh Sliter, Ridgeway, ON, (8D) Daniel Demyan, Struthers, OH, rounded out the top ten.

Teeters won the STARS South series championship title topping Alan Knepper by 27 points. Mark Marcucci finished third in the points followed by Andy Feil, Lynn Knepper, George Englert, Tracy Fritter, Shown Sliter, Cody Bova, Darin Gallagher.

Eight caution flags slowed the race, which took 30 minutes to complete.

Doug Williams, Jeff Teeters, and Cody Bova won qualifying heats.

Night number one of the Little Guy Nationals saw 210 race cars pass through the back gate at Mercer Raceway Park. Taking the top honors were Randy Chrysler (Approved Toilet Rentals 358 Modifieds), Chris Schneider (Precise Racing Products Stock Cars), Jeff Teeters (Bilstein Modified Lite STARS), Andy Priest (ti22 Performance Outlaw Sprint Warriors), Steve Dunmire (Micro Sprints), Pete Blazczak (Big Dog R/C Center Mini Stocks), and Jace Ferringer (Strictly Stocks).

The Bilstein Modified Lite STARS invaded Mercer Raceway Park for a National Series event. Thirty-seven cars were on hand looking to take home the winner's share, $2,400 in cash and contingencies. While Steve White, from Delaware, and Rod Jones, from nearby West Middlesex, PA, battled hard for the win in a one-lap dash for the cash, it was Jeff Teeters who dropped to the inside of turn two to grab the lead and take the surprise victory.

Jones jumped into the lead from his front row starting spot with Alan Knepper in tow. While Jones continued to lead through two cautions, it was White who was quickly moving up through the pack. He reached second by lap eight.

A couple of cautions put Jones and White side by side for the restarts, but Jones was able to maintain command until the restart on lap 16. On that occasion, White found some traction on the outside of turns one and two and he powered into the lead. A caution negated the pass, however.

Once again, Jones grabbed the top spot at the drop of the green, but White was now the driving the faster machine. He dove low in turn three on lap 17 to claim the lead. Another yellow bunched the filed again.

While White remained in the lead on the restart, by lap 19, Jones was fighting back and Cody Bova was starting to flex some muscle. Bova, who was piloting a brand new car, passed Mikey Hay for third and went to the far outside in a bold attempt to pass both White and Jones in the same corner. Jones came off the turn with the lead, and White in second. Bova's maneuver failed, and that allowed Hay to regain third.

With 21 down, a caution gave White another shot at the lead. He took advantage of the opportunity, but a quick yellow gave the point back again to Jones. On the restart, White got the jump and Bova followed him into third again. Hay was not about to surrender the position and, while dicing with Bova, there was contact in turn four that sent Hay around.

White held sway through thew final caution, on lap 24. In the one-lap shootout, White and Jones raced hard into turn one. They both drifted up the track, opening up the bottom groove for Jeff Teeters. Teeters came off turn two with the lead, much to everone's surprise.

His teammate, Jones, and White continued to battle into turn three. They made contact, with White spinning out of contention. He collected Lynn Knepper in the confusion.

Teeters was the winner, with Jones second. New Yorker Derek Wagner finished third, followed by Shawn Sliter and Tracy Fritter.

Mark Marcucci came back from a flip in his heat to win a B Main and claim sixth in the finale. Jacob Bova was seventh, ahead of Andy Feil, Josh Sliter and Alan Knepper.

Bilstein Modified Lite STARS Championship Tour returned to Tyler County Speedway "Bull Ring" Thurs, Sept. 1, for a $500 to win, and on Friday, Sept 2, for a $700 to win co-sanction non-points event with the fame Tyler County Speedway Labor Day Black Diamond weekend.

Night one on Thursday was highlighted by local driver James Watson taking feature win over top STAR drivers Mike Hay and Matt Hay finishing 2nd and 3rd respectfully.

Miller continued to stretch his lead, to the point where he eventually had nearly a straightaway on the field only for the caution to fly when Millers slowed with a blown motor on lap thirteen. On the restart fast coming Watson who started on the tail of the features was able to work his way around both Hays coming off off turn two taking the lead for the final two laps and taking the win with Mike Hay, Matt Hay, James Hill, and Beau Newlon completing the top five.

A big field of Bilstein Modified Lite STARS took the green flag for their twenty lap main event with Tom Kline and Josh Baldwin starting on the front role. Mother Nature played a big part of the STARS feature event with heavy fog settling in just prior to the mod lite feature event. Despite heavy fog there was a big group of cars running in the lead pack jockeying for position on the track. Mike Hay moved to the outside line and was able to pick up the pace, as he drove past pole sitter Kline and then Baldwin to take over the lead. Matt Hay also moved to the high side and was able to move up in the pack, eventually getting along side of older brother Mike Hay.

Mike Hay continued to show the way, as a minor spin of Mitch Ward slowed the field. On the restart Mike Hay continued to hold on to the lead as Matt Hay secured second while Josh Baldwin, James Watson, and Brian Stuhldreher completed the top five.

Making history in Bilstein Modified Lite STARS East first season, Steve White driving the #76 North East Modified Lite Lighting was the dominating force in each of STARS East regional events. Steve competed in all five STARS East events in 2011 and was able to hold off fast charging Richie Wilson for the 2011 STARS East Championship. Steve stated that the last race of the season was the toughest. Not only did he run side by side for several laps with his son JC White, Tim White was putting pressure on him on the remaining 3 laps. Tim had the lead but I was able to get the bite off of four and passed him going into one. Steve had a big smile on his face when he stated that his proudest moment was when his son JC won the Middleford Speedway mod lite 600cc Junior championship

Steve claimed the Bilstein STARS East tour by winning five of the six events. He finished with 630 points; a 96 point lead over second place Richie Wilson.

Steve will now be focusing on the Bilstein Modified Lite International Championship with the first two events scheduled at the Merrittsville Speedway on September 9th and 10th for the International Modified Lite Championship, worth $34,000 in cash, prizes, and contingencies, the biggest payout in the history of modified lite racing. And then the Bilsten Modified Lite Championship Tour will travel to the Little Guy Nationals at Mercer Raceway Park on September 23rd for a $2000 to win $100 to start event.

Surprise win went to Mark Marcucci in the Bilstein Modified Lite STARS West Virginia Modified Lites Invitational at Beckley Motorsports Park.

Steve White sped off to the lead from his pole starting position in the WV Mod Lite Invitational, ahead of Mark Marcucci, Tracey Fritter, and Tim White. Marcucci was nipping at Steve White's heels as they entered lapped traffic on lap 18, Marcucci looked to the inside of the leader as they were weaving their way past the slower cars, while Fritter remained within striking distance. With just two laps away from the finish Marcucci got a full head of steam going down the front stretch diving to the inside and pulling alongside White through the turns. Marcucci grabbed the lead coming off turn two with an impressive slide job.

The action was slowed on lap 19 for a rare miscue by Lynn Knepper, who spun off turn four while running fifth.

On the green/white restart, Marcucci and White got away cleanly, as did Fritter and fast coming Alan Knepper for the final lap only for the caution to come out again for a spin in turns 1 and 2 for Logan, Ward, and Teeters. During the second caution period the number 6 driven by Steve White suddenly veered to the right and retired from the event with a broken spindle and a disappointing 14th finishing position.

"Boy, they sure made me work for that one, huh," said Marcucci after scoring the popular win. We had to search out different lines while he was giving chase to leader Steve White. We were pretty good there early, and I kept telling myself that we needed to find something different." Marcucci explained, "If you follow the guy and run the same line he is, it makes it hard to get past."

For his part, White was disappointed. "We just got beat," he said. "The car good enough, but I made a mistake giving Marcucci the lower line off of turn two." He made no excuses, though. "You just don't lead that many laps and fell good about a broken spindal," he said.

On the opposite end of the scale of emotions was Tracey Fritter. "We were really coming there at the end," he said. "I just wish that it was 25 lap feature."

When the checkers fell, it was Marcucci over Fritter, and Alan Knepper. Kevin Nicolino recovered for fourth, after falling back to fifth while racing through lapped traffic. Matt Hall rounded out the top five. Tim White and Mitch Ward finished sixth and seventh. Paul McGinley got eighth. Jeff Teeters and Rod Jones completed the top ten.

Fast timer for the 23 cars on hand was Steve White. Heat wins went to Steve White, Tracy Fritter, and Tim White.

Marcucci earned $1000 of his win, and the $1000 "Bully Dog Dominating Performer Award" and a good share of the $2,000 contingency prizes offered by the Bilstein Modified Lites STARS.

The action was slowed on lap 19 for a rare miscue by Lynn Knepper, who spun off turn four while running fifth.

The event's first caution was with seven laps completed for Johnny Chaulk.

When racing resumed, Rich Rainville worked his way past Chapman for second on lap nine and made his presence known when the second caution of the night flew on lap ten for John Nemier who spun going into turn one. It was a beautiful night at Mercer Raceway Park for the Mid-Season Championships, and there were plenty of fans in the stands to enjoy it as Jack Sodeman, Justin Whitesell, Frank Guidace, Rusty Moore, Darin Gallagher and Pete Blazczak collected victories. With double points on the line, feature lineups for the top 12 drivers in each division were set by the points standings coming into the night provided that the teams qualified in pill draw positions through their heat races.

Darrin Gallagher picked up his second career victory in the Big Daddy's Speed Center Mod Lites. Polesitters Gallagher and Shane Pfeuffer battled early in the race, with Gallagher regaining his opening lap lead on lap 10. Brian Miller advanced into second and looked to have the position wrapped up but a last lap pass from Ontario native Shawn Sliter cost him the runner-up finish. Lynn Knepper and Andy Feil rounded out the top five. With double points on the line this Saturday for the Mid-Season Championship presented by NAPA Auto Parts, race teams will be out in full force to attempt to get ahead in the race for the coveted title of 2011 Mercer Raceway Park Track Champion! The point battles have already heated up, and the second place car in each division has a shot at taking the lead this weekend. Extra prizes will also be on the line as the Stars Mod Lite series will be bringing $2,000 in contingencies for the division!

Our number one goal under the Modified Lite STARS banner is to support and promote modified lite racing, Bill Bauer president of the Tour stated during a phone conversation with Mercer Raceway Park representative Kristen Swartzlander. The support we are getting from our sponsors gives us the resources that we can use and provide to those race facilities that have modified lites on their schedule. We encourage promoters to contact us to schedule regional events, but we also support non-point events and co-sanction events like we're are doing with West Virginia Motor Speedway on June 30th.

After much consideration the Modified Lite STARS South Board of Directors have voted to leave the STARS South tire rule the same and not add the American Racer mini stock tire to the STARS South rules. Bill Bauer, president of the STARS South and Modified Lite STARS, Inc. advised Mercer Raceway Park along with the STARS South Regional events drivers that "In order to continue to keep the costs of the mod lite class down, the STARS South will discontinue the testing of the American Racer Mini Stock Tires (GT Pattern 22.5/8-13 DT) which was conducted at Mercer Raceway Park. The change will take effect immediately. After allowing a trial period for the tires, the STARS South Board of Directors has determined that the cost of converting to these tires would be an economic hardship for teams in the division."

Bauer stated during a phone conversation with American Racer representative Fred Woodward. The Modified Lite STARS goal was to identify a cheaper tire for the drivers and to avoid the additional fee that was added to the Hoosier TUSA RC 3 tire. Our STARS South and East region are now running the Hoosier RC 3 non-plated tire which saves the drivers an estimated $15 per tire. Contact Bill Bauer at 814-442-1738 for further information.

With Bilstein Modified Lite STARS International Championship Tour continue to show strength with the recent signing of Bilstein Shock as thier series primary sponsor, Bill Bauer, president of the non-profit organization continues to work with associate sponsors to gain more support for the 2011 season. Mother Nature wasn't cooperating with many of our regional events during April and May, "I hope that the month of June works out for the tour" Bauer stated. Car count has been down with marginal weather and the cost of fuel, many of our drivers elect to stay home if weather reports show a chance of rain. The month of June we have the STARS North East on line for June 3rd at Can-Am; the STARS North will be visiting Ohsweken Speedway on June 10th and the STARS East will be returning to Middleford Speedway on June 14th. The STARS South was scheduled to run with the WoO Late Models at WVMS but mother nature kept the speedway from opening their gates. Currently we are working with WVMS to reschedule the event.

The Bilstein Modified Lite STARS International Championship Tour is a non-profit organization representing an aggressively growing segment of motor sports' racing and is recognized as the leader in modified lite racing in the tri-state area of Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Ohio along with New York, Delaware and Candia regions. The Modified Lite STARS Tour continued to show growth in 2011 with the addition of the STARS East (Delaware region) and STARS North East (New York) joining the program.

With the Bobcat of Hamilton 358 Modifieds not on the schedule and preparing for Monday Super DIRTcar Series Event two former Champions returned to the J and S Heating and Air Conditioning Modified Lite Division for the first Stars North Tour Event of 2011.

One of those was Shawn Sliter who outraced sophomore driver Derek Moore to the early lead with the two front runners losing control of their cars after contact on lap 2. The new leader on the restart was Chris Steele who was trying to remain undefeated in the young season.

A caution on lap 10 saw Steele out front with Sliter in second with Sliter regaining top spot on lap 13. Caution on the next lap would slow the field and with Sliter out front on the restart "Steele had to be smelling his chance to regain the lead," said Merrittville Co-announcer Clint Kruchka post race.

Sliter began to show smoke in his brother 's borrowed car but it didn't seem to slow Ray Sliter Jr's regular ride. Steele had to settle for second with defending Champion Josh Sliter, Jason Corless and 2011 358 Modified Rookie Paul Klager rounded out the top 5.

The Bilstein STARS South Mod Lite series visited Mercer Raceway Park for the first time this season, and Jeff Teeters became the first repeat winner of the year in the Big Daddy's Speed Center Mod Lite class. Teeters grabbed an early lead and made off with the $500 victory relatively unchallenged.

"It felt great," Teeters said of picking up the win. "The last time I was here, the car was much easier to drive. Tonight it was really hard. I had to work hard."

Teeters made a beeline for the front of the field from his ninth place starting position, taking the lead from pole sitter Alan Knepper on lap four after multiple cautions bunched the field up. Tracy Fritter, Mercer Raceway Park's April 30 winner, also used the cautions to his advantage as he advanced from the ninth place starting spot to make his way into second place.

Fritter had a shot at taking the lead from Teeters on a mid-race caution flag and then again on a lap 18 caution but Fritter didn't give Teeters a challenge, quickly falling back on the restart. Despite his heroics, Fritter was unable to regain his second-place position and the final finish saw Alan Knepper, Lynn Knepper, Fritter, and Mark Marcucci as the top five.

In addition to cash, STARS South drivers received more than $2000 worth of contingencies which are included in purse earning.

Bilstein Stars Mod Lite Series Round Three: Mercer Raceway Park, Mercer, PA: May 21, 2011/Big Daddy's Speed Center Mod Lites (20 laps): 1. JEFF TEETERS $825 (23) 2. Alan Knepper $525 (20) 3. Officials of ThyssenKrupp Bilstein of America and the Modified Lite STARS International Championship Tour are pleased to announce the formation of an alliance that will secure the shock manufacturer's dominant position in Modified Lite racing and that will allow the non-profit organization to grow its presence in that arena. Together, they will present the Bilstein Modified Lite STARS International Championship Tour.

The Bilstein Modified Lite STARS International Championship Tour is an innovative concept that draws together top regional racers to compete for enhanced purses close to home and gives them the added challenge of racing against the best of the best in a number of prominent, international events for the motorcycle powered cars. After the final checkered flag falls and the points are tallied, a champion will be crowned and he will be rewarded handsomely. "Bilstein's financial partnership with the Modified Lite STARS International Championship Tour will give us the resources that we need as series organizers to make this work and Bilstein's product support will give the racers the technology that they need to compete for the top prizes," said Tour President Bill Bauer.

For 2011, there will be four regional series: North, North East, South and East. The North Series races will be held at Merrittville Speedway, Oshweken Speedway. The North East Series will compete at CanAm Speedway. The South Series races will take place at Mercer Raceway Park, Sharon Speedway, Lernerville Speedway and West Virginia Motor Speedway. Middleford Speedway will host the East Series races.

The crown jewel events, though, the ones that promise to add the International spice to the mix, will be held at Merrittville Speedway (September 9-10), and Middleford Speedway (October 15).

Fans and racers of the Modified Lite STARS International Championship Tour are hoping that Mother Nature will cooperate and allow the STARS regional programs to get underway! After two failed attempts from the STARS East and STARS South regional events scheduled in April thanks to deluges of rain, we're hoping for better weather for the STARS North East opener at CanAm Speedway scheduled for May 6th, Bill Bauer stated during the recent Board of Directors meeting. All four regions will be running their events with STARS North East kicking it off at CanAm, followed by the STARS South who will be running with the All Star Sprint Circuit of Champions on May 14th at Mercer Raceway Park. The STARS North will kick off their season on May 21st at Merrittville Speedway, followed by the Twin $500 to win events for the STARS East at Middleford Speedway on May 28th and May 29th. The busy month will end when the STARS South will make its debut and descend upon the West Virginia Motor Speedway with the WOO Late Models for a $500 to win on May 29th.

For the second straight weekend, Mother Nature plagued the western Pa./eastern Ohio area with cold, inclement weather, and while all other area tracks pulled the plug on their events, Sharon again continued on with their program. Despite an unfavorable forecast all week, Sharon waited until Saturday morning to make a decision on the status of the fourth annual Open Stock Car Shootout. Surprisingly, sunshine dawned the speedway and it never did rain or snow all day as predicted and the temperature rose to 50 degrees.

The STAR's Mod Lite Series kicked off their season and it was a familiar face in victory lane as local driver Mark Marcucci of nearby West Middlesex, Pa. won the 20-lap Uni-Tech Frame Straightening and Joe's Radiator feature. Marcucci passed race-long leader Brian Woodhall with a slider on a restart with two laps to go and went on for the $400 victory.

"I really didn't mean to do that to Brian," described the 22-year-old Marcucci, who won three races in 2010. "He's a good friend of mine. I thought I was going to get him on the high side and he got a little jump on the restart. I saw the opening down there and I really thought I had him cleared so I got on the gas and we bumped a little bit. I know he's upset and I apologize to him, but that's how it goes."

From the pole position, Woodhall took the initial lead over Lynn Knepper and Josh Slitter. A caution for a spin by Shawn Sliter slowed action with four laps completed. When green replaced yellow, eighth starting Marcucci moved to second past Knepper. The second and final caution was displayed with 18 laps completed for a spin by FASTRAK Late Model driver Bud Watson, who was driving the Sonny Tanner #13.

On the restart, Marcucci dove low under Woodhall, but wasn't quite able to clear him. The two made contact with Marcucci powering into the lead. Woodhall gathered it up back up and tried valiantly to get back by Marcucci on the last lap, but was unsuccessful as Marcucci's DandM Excavating/Ernie's Transmission/Harper and Huston Masonry #8M took the checkered flag. Woodhall edged the father-son duo of Alan and Lynn Knepper for second. West Virginia driver Brandon Fluharty was fifth. Heat victors were Marcucci and Watson.

The Modified Lite STARS International Championship Tour racing series is a non-profit organization established to give motorcycle-powered modified lite racecars, in the Western Pennsylvania/Eastern Ohio, West Virginia, New York, Delaware, and Canada area a chance to compete with one another for a higher purse structure and for a point fund for the scheduled events.

Modified Lite STARS South Heading to Sharon Speedway on April 2nd

Extremely cold weather had forced the cancellation of the Modified Lite STARS South "Chiller Thriller" at Mercer Raceway Park for March 26th as well as the March 27th rain date. The 2011 Modified Lite STARS South will kick off their 2011 season this Saturday at Sharon Speedway for a $400 to win event. Sharon Speedway will be hosting a doubleheader "Friday Night Thunder" at 7:30 then Open Stocks, STAR'S Mod Lite Series and Minis on Saturday night at 7!

Having competed at many of the major dirt tracks in the tri-state Pennsylvania, Ohio, Maryland and West Virginia area since 1994 running under the banner of the Pennsylvania Modified Lite Racing Association, the organization grew over a period of 18-years to the nationality level when the New York DWARF Car Association (a New York/Canadian organization) teamed with the PA group forming the Modified Lite STARS International Championship Tour.

In 2006 the Modified Lite STAR's Championship Tour was formed to provide drivers the opportunity to compete at a regional level known as the STARS North (Canada region) and STARS South (Ohio/PA/WV Region). The Modified Lite STARS Tour continue to develop into the 2011 season with the addition of the STARS East (Delaware region) and STARS North East (New York) joining the Modified Lite International program making the STARS program a perfect for an international modified lite racing program.

The Modified Lite STAR's International Championship Tour represents an aggressively growing segment of motor sports' racing and is recognized as the leader in modified lite racing in the tri-state area of Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Ohio along with New York Delaware and Canada.

Excitement Continues with Contingency Connection Signing on with the Modified Lite STARS Championship Tour.

The Modified Lite STARS International Championship Tour is proud to be one of only 60 tracks/racing series in the nation to have the prestigious Contingency Connection national contingency program for our racers in 2011! Over 100 tracks and racing series applied to participate in the program but the Modified Lite STARS was chosen because of the importance we place on our regional and international racing program, President Bill Bauer announced.

We are pleased to announce that we will have over $50,000 in National contingency posting up for grabs in 2011! With National manufacturers such as Moroso, JE Pistons, Aeroquip, CV Products, Auto Meter, MSD, Comp Cams, Mr. Gasket, Richmond Gear, TCI, ACCEL, Lincoln Electric, Bully Dog, Redhorse Performance, Taylor Vertex, Melling, Hastings, RJS Safety Equipment and many, many more will be posting awards for the Modified Lite STARS racers!!

The posted contingency awards will be distributed to all four regions STARS North, STARS North East, STARS East, and STARS South in the form of product certificates. Winning racers receive their contingency awards at the track upon their race win.

The Modified Lite STARS racers can win more money more often at our regional program than any other national series in the nation, Bauer explained! Our drivers will be required to run the decals of the posting sponsors and be eligible to win thousands of dollars in contingency awards.

Recently installed President Bill Bauer made a detailed presentation to the Board of Directors of the Modified Lite STARS South Region (formerly the Pennsylvania Mod Lite Racing Association) at a meeting held on March 12. The program is a dynamic regional and international series of races that will yield substantial benefits for the racers. The action will start with a pair of races in Bauer's back yard: Mercer Raceway Park, on March 26; and Sharon Speedway, on April 2.

Bauer is no stranger to the Modified Lite division. He brings more than fifteen years of experience as a driver, car owner and official to his new role. Bauer left the Mod Lites in 2009 to take the position of Race Director with the BRP/Hoosier Tire Modified Tour. "My sabbatical from Mod Lites gave me the opportunity to gain valuable experience and contacts in the promotional and marketing aspects of motorsports," he said. While Bauer will remain active with the Big Block Modified touring series, he believes that this return to his roots can bring stability and growth to the Mod Lites.

Bauer has partnered with Canadian Bruce Mason, promoter of the Modified Lite International Championship (formerly the Rose Webber International Race), held annually at Merritville Speedway, in Thorold, ONT. "Bruce and I have been talking about this concept since the start of the 2010 season," Bauer said. "But, neither of us had the time to launch it properly." Bauer and Mason are convinced that the time is right to move forward with the most ambitious and exciting venture in the history of small car racing. "During the December PRI Trade Show in Orlando, many of the vendors showed interest in the Mod Lite division," Bauer explained. "Plus, promoters and racers wanted me to get active in the process again."

Hence, the formation of Modified Lite STARS International Championship Tour. "The International Championship Tour will be a non-profit organization that will enable the racers to compete for enhanced purses and a seasonal points fund," Bauer explained. Operating under that broad umbrella will be four regional series in 2011: STARS North, STARS South, STARS North East and STARS East. The 2011 schedule will likely consist of 30 races spread throughout the four regions. Additional races are under negotiation and efforts are underway to eliminate conflicting race dates. A final schedule announcement will be forthcoming soon.

Details of the points structure will be announced before the first series race, which will be in two short weeks at Mercer Raceway Park. "We are delighted to host the opener," noted Mercer Track Manager Frank Benic. Mercer will be a regular stop for the Mod Lites in 2011 and it will present three sanctioned special events for the class.

Once we were able to assemble the schedule, we could sign sponsor contracts," Bauer added. While many racers and racing series are looking for cash sponsors, they are hard to find. So, in the short term, Bauer has concentrated his efforts on landing contingency sponsorships. Bauer has already secured a program that will provide more than $50,000 in awards from recognized national and regional sponsors. Bauer projects that the Modified Lite STARS International Champion will garner over $3,000 in cash and contingencies. Other end-of-year prize packages are in the works. Moreover, each of the regional races will carry sponsorship support estimated at $1,800.

"The future is now," Bauer summed up.
